Warpower:Turkiye (Turkey)

The WARPOWER series of sites take a unique, 'by-the-numbers', quick-reference approach to the current (2023) military capabilities of Turkiye (Turkey) (officially the Republic of Turkiye). Turkey is a military power on the rise, broadening capabilities through a growing indigeonous industrial base. Systems showcased below represent the very tools that would be brought to bear should the nation be forced to go to war with a neighboring regional rival. Defense aggregate GlobalFirepower.com ranks Turkey as the No.11 power in the world and No.1 as a regional power.

Service Branches

The fighting forces of Turkiye are collectively managed under the Turkish Armed Forces banner and encompasses three major branches of service: the Turkish Air Force (TAF), the Turkish Land Forces (TLF), and the Turkish Naval Forces (TNF). The defense force was founded on May 3rd, 1920.

Historically, Turkish Land Forces have relied on the United States as its primary materials supplier. Most notable today is the growing presence of local Turkish solutions to satisfy equally-local requirements in Main Battle Tank, Armored Fighting Vehicle, artillery, MRLS, and security vehicle categories. All told, the service manages and maintains well over 55,000 vehicle and artillery units and ranks as one of the top ten land forces anywhere in the world.

Turkish military manpower by-the-numbers.

Turkeys relatively large population affords it one of the larger standing armies in the world with some 775,000 total personnel committed through various branches of service. This includes over 400,000 active personnel. The Army service has done well to modernize, featuring a bevy of semi-automatic and automatic options covering pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and machine guns. The local industrial base has also been key in producing equally-localized solutions such as anti-material rifles and anti-tank missiles / rockets. The service also has access to modern grenade launchers and MANPADS.
NOTES: Values below used (with permission) from the military stats aggregator site www.GlobalFirepower.com, detailing the current strengths and weaknesses of modern military forces by-the-numbers.
